Shelby’s journey into fitness began at age 15, when he stepped into the gym for the first time. Growing up without much sport experience, he quickly discovered the importance of strength training.

Initially enrolled in the science program at MRU, he realized after a couple years that his true calling lay in fitness. This shift was partially influenced by his newfound interest in Brazilian jiu-jitsu and Powerlifting, which he discovered around the same time.

Shelby finished his bachelor's in health and physical education in 2019, and started his coaching career soon after. That same year he started training for Olympic Weightlifting under Austin Van Dam, this led to him joining Synaptic Strength in 2024. He has also coached powerlifting clients up to a regional level. He understands that each person is going to have different challenges on the way to their goals, and he is dedicated to helping clients with those challenges. His favourite part of coaching is seeing clients become both physically and mentally stronger. He is also constantly learning in order to continually expand and refine his coaching.
